Analyze THIS! Leveraging Social Media Analytics

Understanding social media analytics can be a bit like learning a new language. What is the difference between likes and reach? How about visits versus engagements? And who are all these followers anyway? When you start digging into the numbers behind the posts, you can really start to see the value of social media for your business, and the unprecedented information and access it gives you regarding your core audience.

Most social media platforms have customized analytics aggregators, called dashboards, which show insights into the demographics and behavior of your followers within their platform. Dashboard content and availability can vary by platform, and may require a threshold number of followers in order to display. For instance, Facebook’s Insights dashboard requires at least 30 people to like your page before data becomes available. And keep in mind that because of the interface, differences in dashboard content may exist between the mobile and desktop versions.

Demographics

The biggest value of social media measurement from a marketing standpoint is the ability to minutely segment your audience and market directly to those users you think are most likely to buy your products or services. Social media platforms know this, so that kind of targeted advertising is only available for a fee. However, even the general account demographics social media sites give you for your confirmed followers is insightful when planning marketing promotions, building pricing, and creating content that appeals to your audience.

Demographic data varies by platform, and each site has some informational features that are unique to their site. Gender and age are two demographic mainstays, with household incomes, education, occupations, languages and location information all being used in various combinations. All platforms also have a way to compare your account’s unique audience to the general demographics of all of the site’s users. This can help you understand if your page content is aligned with the users of the site, or if you need to concentrate your efforts on a social media platform that’s more actively used by your audience.

Hopefully you completed this basic demographic research during the planning and social media strategy parts of your social media decision making, so alignment isn’t an issue. But, like anything, demographic information on social media can shift in response to market and adoption drivers. Facebook encountered this in the mid-2000s, when the number of users over 29 began increasing, away from its original demographic of college-aged students and newly post-graduate twentysomethings. Twitter saw demographic shift too as the platform’s user base moved from tech gurus and early adopters to armchair pundits and soccer moms with the increased ubiquity of smartphones and text messaging.

Impressions and Engagement

The whole purpose of social media is to engage with your followers in a way that reinforces your brand image or inspires them to share your content within their social groups. Impressions and engagement have a symbiotic relationship in social media, because one usually produces more of the other. This continuous cycle of impressions and engagements encourages the spread of your content beyond your own account followers, which makes that content viral. Viral content is the goal of every social media strategist in the business, and why it’s vitally important to the planning of your social media strategy. Virality means the content that was created resonated with followers in such a way that it compelled them to share it with non-followers. By studying the kinds of content that goes viral, a business can hope to replicate its success and spread its content to new audiences.

So what are impressions and engagements? Impressions, also called reach, are the number of individual social media accounts able to view your content. Engagements, or engagement rate, are the percentage of accounts who liked, favorited, shared, retweeted, clicked through, commented, expanded, or otherwise interacted with the content according to the abilities of the social media platform they were using. You can see where this relationship can increase content sharing exponentially when you realize each engagement can open your content to hundreds or thousands of new accounts, all of which have the same ability to keep engaging with the content.

Analytics and Competition

As discussed before, each social media platform has its own unique dashboard and series of metric markers for performing analytics. But if you are trying to publish content on multiple sites, understanding trends, engagement, and reach across all platforms can be tricky, and could potentially drive you crazy!

Multi-site analytics is one area where social media management tools can be helpful. Not only can these tools assist with overall account management and content optimization, but they can help spot trends that supersede any single platform’s analytics tools by integrating each platform’s individual metrics into an aggregated dashboard. There’s a lot more to these management tools, so we’ll cover them in a future blog post.

When it comes to competitive analytics, however, social media platforms come in a variety of flavors. While they can give you some insights into how competitors’ accounts are performing and they can suggest accounts to watch for additional information, they are usually limited in scope and number of monitored accounts, and of course, lack aggregated results from all of your business’ social media accounts.

For pure decision making, marketing, and competitive analysis across a number of social media platforms, a program called Rival IQ gives great results. It monitors the five most popular social media platforms, and can also track SEO keywords through search engines and via website content.

5 Facebook Changes All Social Media Agencies Need To Know

Facebook recently announced several new features coming to the platform that will make any social media company or small business very excited. These features will make it easier for small businesses to use Facebook to communicate with other businesses, organizations, and people. The features were announced and debuted during the company’s developer conference “F8″. From using apps to sending messages to commenting integration, these new features will revolutionize the ever-evolving platform and put an emphasis on communication. This guide covers 5 new features coming to Facebook and explains their possible benefits for business.

Comment Integration Will Boost Client Visibility For Social Media Agencies

Companies, organizations, and agencies will benefit most from Facebook’s upcoming comment integration. When users want to comment on articles or media on a site like The Huffington Post, their comments will show up under the story’s post in Facebook. This new feature makes it much easier for people to engage with content, boosting visibility for anyone who uses Facebook to gain brand recognition.

Business Sales and Communication Tracking With Messenger

E-commerce websites will soon get to enjoy an integrated standalone messaging app. Whenever a buyer makes a purchase online, this new feature will allow the buyer to connect to his or her Facebook account so the company can send notifications directly through the app. Customers who don’t like getting emails confirming an order or sending shipping updates might enjoy this new feature. This new feature can be used by organizations, companies, and businesses to provide better customer service.

New Apps Will Allow Unique Messages

In the past, you would have to have the messaging app opened or pulled up in your browser to send a message on Facebook. Now Facebook’s newest features make it possible to send messages from some third-party apps. One app that is integrating with Facebook is Giphy, an animated GIF creator. To send a Giphy GIF via Facebook before, you would have to close the messenger app, open Giphy, create your GIF, copy the GIF, reopen the messaging app, and paste it in. The third-party app integration makes sharing far more convenient for everyone. Opening Facebook’s messaging service to third-party developers also creates a unique opportunity for brands to suggest downloading their integrations directly from the messenger.

Video Embedding

In previous years, if you were to upload a video to Facebook, the only way to share the video was to link to it. Facebook is releasing a new feature that makes it possible to embed videos without linking to them, making it more attractive to use Facebook as a video hosting service instead of YouTube. Everyone from individual Facebook users to companies and organizations will benefit from this feature.

Analytics Apps

Facebook is also releasing a new analytics dashboard. This dashboard makes it possible for Facebook app developers to get a glimpse into who is interacting with their apps and where they are located. This information will be key to app development. Getting information on an app user will help developers figure out who their target audiences are and makes it easier for developers to make changes that the app user will enjoy. The dashboard displays information such as average session duration, purchases, ages, genders, active users, and more.

Staying apprised of all the latest changes to Facebook is crucial when it comes to competing for brand recognition on social media.

The Importance of Keywords in Search Engine Optimisation

Keywords are the words and phrases that people type into search box of a search engine, such as Google, to find what websites that match what they are looking for.
Choosing the right keywords is not about standing out from the crowd and differentiating your brand from competitors; it is about seeding your site with the words, people use to find your products and services. It is very important to put some time and thought into researching keywords. There are some good free tools online such as the Google Keyword Research tool and Word tracker that can help get you started in researching keywords relevant to your business. These tools can be very useful for getting insights about how many users are searching for a given keyword and how much competition there is for the keyword online. This can give you a realistic sense of what keywords you should be using on your website and how effective they will be in marketing your site online.
When you complete with the research part you can develop a simple plan of action for implementing those keywords on your site. For an example you have a website about website design services and based on your  keyword research, you came up with the following keywords to target:
  • web design Hyderabad
  • web designers in Hyderabad
  • website designing company Hyderabad
  • Website Designing Hyderabad
  • web design in Hyderabad
Once you have selected the keywords that best match your business and target audience, the next stage is to implement them into your website effectively. Based on these keywords you can create pages on your website by providing required information to users about what they are looking for.
Few companies choose to include keywords relevant to their business in the company domain name. Also, avoid using hyphens in your domain name such us www.professional-web-designer.com as it looks very unprofessional and there is a possibility that users avoid to click on the link when it is listed online.
Hence, with some efforts in creating target keywords for your website is an investment which is worth making. With the help of free tools and resources available online, it will be easy for you to get started on thinking about ways to use targeted keywords to get qualified leads to your website’s pages.

Advertise Your Brand For Free: Use The Power Of Social Media

If you fancy driving sales, generating qualified leads, build relationships with your clients and who’s who in the industry at low cost, SOCIAL MEDIA is the answer.
The role of social media in today’s business set-up is crucial. If you want to make your brand more visible using this social route it is a doable job. What is needed is some smart strategy on your part. Here are few tips that can help you create your own brand by using social media:
Identify your Audience: Make sure you know who your target audience. Take pains to get familiar with their interests, needs and biggest challenges. Try to get an idea how your product or service will solve their problems and profit them.
Have A Plan In Mind: Remember it’s not about you and your liking alone. It’s about what your customer likes and wants. Understand your customer’s interests and challenges before trying to target them.
Subtlety is Strength: Do not talk about your brand so much that your message is classified as noise. Instead, provide useful information and news related to your specific audience’s needs and interests. Yes, be subtle in mentioning your brand, that’s the catch!
Post Variety of Content: Play with your posts. Add variety to your posts from industry specific updates to practical tips and fun stories.
Engage: Posting and updating your social media regularly without listening is not adequate. In order to show that you really mean what you post, engage your audience by starting conversations. Don’t post like a robot, give your social media campaign a human face.
Images & Videos: The fact remains that no one likes to read posts if they lack any visual appeal, no matter how much sense they make. The reality can be summed in two words: “Short & Simple”. Yes, make it mandatory to post visuals (Images or Videos) along with your posts. This will help your content to stand-out on the ever sliding timeline.

Disagreements can be productive

In the world of business, disagreements with peers and team members about the best course of action are inevitable. These disagreements can be productive, or they can turn negative and become relationship- and results-killers.
Here’s how to make sure your disagreements are productive:
  • Make the necessary deposits. If you want to have productive arguments with your peers, your team and maybe even your clients, you need to have already made “deposits” toward those relationships. Unless and until your intentions are known, disagreements may feel personal and political. But if your intentions are known and your relationship is strong at the start, then arguments and disagreements can actually help you produce better results.
  • Don’t make personal attacks. It bears repeating: If you want to have productive disagreements, you cannot turn them into personal attacks. Your argument needs to center on the best choice to produce the outcome over which you are arguing. Avoid making personal attacks against the other person. If she has made mistakes in the past, leave those mistakes in the past. Confine your disagreement to the matter at hand.
  • Accept that others’ intentions are good. You cannot have a productive disagreement while also questioning the other person’s intentions. If his intentions are bad — if what he is arguing for is immoral or illegal, for example — you cannot have a productive disagreement. But if you’re arguing over the best course of action, then assume the other person wants the same outcome you do.
  • Have a clean heart yourself. If you want other people to treat you as if your intentions are good, you too must have a clean heart. You cannot have a productive disagreement if what is really driving your argument is what you stand to gain. Assume others have good intentions, but also make sure your intentions are above reproach.
  • Find a path you can agree on. And here’s the thing about productive disagreements: You don’t win by winning the argument. You win by discovering the best path forward and gaining agreement to pursue it. I’ve had relationships with partners who were willing to concede to the person with the strongest feelings. They valued the relationship as much as the outcome — and that is at the heart of a productive disagreement.
Remember, your goal in a productive disagreement isn’t to beat the other person but to choose the best path forward together.

9 Dos and 10 Don’t of Web Design

I’m continually surprised by how many people start meetings with our design company with very firm ideas about what they want on their website and yet,  haven’t thought through some of the most basic questions first. For this reason, our first question is always “Why do you need a site?,” not “What do you want on it?” Your website is a marketing tool. For many businesses, it’s their only source of business. If done right, it can be a major part of yours.
Here’s a quick-hit list of the top dos and don’ts before you get started:
     Do:
    1. Set smart goals. And make sure they’re measurable. Here are a few great ones a Web designer wants to hear: increase conversion rates, increase sales, generate more leads, reduce overhead, and improve brand awareness.
    2. Plan on becoming an SEO wizard. Sure, you’re going to want help from the pros and eventually you might even need your own in-house SEO expert, but search engine optimization is something you need to know about too. It has one of the highest ROIs in marketing.  SEO can literally put your marketing on autopilot, allowing you to focus on improving the quality of your business, instead of figuring out how to bring in customers to your site.
    3. Use CMS. A CMS makes it easier for people to create, edit and publish content on a website. Website publishing has required significant technical skills (HTML, programming). A good CMS allows non-technical authors and editors to easily and quickly publish their content with relative ease.
    4. Think about your mobile strategy simultaneously. Research the percentage of your visitors that are likely to use mobile devices to access your site. If it’s high, you may want to consider building a separate mobile version of your site, or even an app. If it’s relatively low, just make sure your website works on smart phone.
    5. Steal from your competitors. Before you build your site, check out your competitors and write down the things they do well. If you like the look and feel of another site, there’s no reason not to start with something you like and then make it your own.
    6. Develop your content. The biggest slow-down in the Web design process is content. If you’re going to sell products on your site, get product photos and product descriptions ready. If you sell services, you’ll need a description of each service. Get as much of your content together before you start building your site—it will save you weeks. And while you’re at it…
    7. Write with calls to action in mind. Good calls to action allow visitors to quickly decide what they want to do next. Having a big sale? Don’t just write a banner that says “50% off all products.” Write one that says “50% off all products, CLICK HERE to view them.”
    8. Always answer the question “why?” Have you ever walked up to someone you’ve never met, handed them a business card, and walked away without saying a word? Likely not. If you want people to do something on your website, such as sign up for your newsletter, don’t just put up a box that says “enter email” or even “sign up for newsletter”—you’ll get a very weak conversion rate. Tell them why they should do it: “Sign up for our newsletter to receive weekly specials.” Same thing goes for Twitter and Facebook logos. Just putting them up isn’t smart. Tell people why they should follow you on Twitter or friend you on Facebook. What will they get out of it?
    9. Trust your Web designer. I tend to see the worst end results with customers who come in with a “I know what I want, just do what I tell you” attitude. You hired an expert because they know more than you, right? Let them do what they do best and they’re more likely to meet and often exceed your goals.
    10. Don’t:
      1. I know—I run a Web design firm, so of course this was going to be stated. But seriously, your website is often where your customers’ first experience your brand. If it looks homemade, they’re going to make assumptions about your business that you probably want to avoid.
      2. Make people think. When visitors come to your website, they typically already know what they want out of it. Do a three-second test: If within three seconds a visitor can’t figure out what to do next, go back to the drawing board.
      3. Expect visitors. Lose the “if you build it, they will come” mentality. Simply putting up your site will not result in any visitors.
      4. Spend all your money. Don’t max out your entire budget on the website. You can get a well-designed site for under $2,000 from a freelancer, or a few thousand dollars from a professional agency. And you can always make improvements as your business grows. It’s far more important initially to have some money left over for a marketing budget so you can actually make a return on your investment.
      5. Add a blog. Are you really going to write posts? Be honest. If you won’t, then forget about a blog. A website with an outdated blog can create the perception that your company is small or even out of business.
      6. Add Twitter and Facebook buttons. If a potential client clicks through to your social pages and sees hardly any followers, they may lose trust in you. First build up your social presence, then commit to posting and engaging your fans on a regular basis, and only then promote them on your website. Also keep in mind that some businesses simply don’t belong on Twitter or Facebook.
      7. Try to please everyone. Your website will be a mess if you try to accommodate every type of visitor who might come along. Figure out who is likely to be your most frequent users and focus on creating the best experience for them.
      8. Add testimonials. Building credibility is important, but too often testimonials sound fake. “’They are great!’ says John Smith” simply isn’t believable. If you’re going to have testimonials make sure they are specific, and something people can relate to.
      9. Use Flash. Some sites still need it, but if you can, avoid it. Adobe just announced that it will no longer support Flash on mobile devices and set-top-boxes. The last thing you want is for a potential customer to be unable to open your site.
      10. Expect a killer website overnight. Good websites take time to build. If you want the best results out of your site, be prepared for several months of work.

SEO Tricks for One Page Websites

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you can’t beat ‘em, so you might as well join ‘em. I’m of course referring to the sudden, and not altogether unpleasant influx of single page websites. This design trend has taken a lot of heat in times past for not being search friendly. Their non-paginated structures don’t exactly make for easy indexing, and if there’s an abundance of content on the page, it can make things even more difficult for search spiders looking to find relevant content. Combine that with the fact that one page means you can’t target more than one main keyword phrase, and it seems like a lot of the criticism leveled at one pagers is completely justified. Not so, says I.
SEO Tricks for One Page Websites
There are plenty of search friendly one page sites, and some very effective techniques to circumvent all of the difficulties mentioned above. Single page sites aren’t traditional, and can be challenging to optimize if you’re not used to them. On the other hand they are focused on a single purpose, and can be designed to deliver on that purpose exclusively, making it easier to optimize according to that idea.
Today, we’ll go over some of the clever methods and mythos to optimizing one page websites for search engines
SEO Tricks for One Page Websites

    Paginate Your Page

Unpaginated architecture is the main complaint leveled against one page proponents. And why not? It’s certainly the structure to which we’re all accustomed. It helps you spread out your domain authority, and target multiple keywords. Honestly, for most websites it’s the way to go. Single page sites are best reserved for landing pages, specified business offerings, or storytelling.
One thing that frustrates me about much of the SEO advice concerning one page websites that you come across, is the thought that you should add a blog or other content pages to your one-page site. I keep seeing this idea pop up, and am constantly rolling my eyes. Adding pages to a single page site, makes it a multi-page site. I didn’t think that really needed to be stated out loud but I come across that pseudo-solution all the time, so I figured I’d get it out of my system right away.
Instead of paginating your site, you can just separate the content contained on your one page in an organized and compelling format. In essence, you’ll be paginating your only page. If it’s a landing page, you can separate content into headings: features, headings, reviews, contact form, etc. If you’re setting up a one page site for your business, then you can literally compile a traditional site format on a single page by separating the content into all the industry standards: home, about, contact, products, blog, and so on.
Clearly defined sections that are easy to navigate will make your one page site more legible to visitors and search spiders alike.

    Organize Your CSS for Spiders

Of course, whatever you want to partition off that’s facing users will have to be adjusted in the CSS, and that’s easily accomplished by placing each section of content within DIVs. While this doesn’t have a direct effect on SEO, it does make your CSS easier to scan. You can also use CSS id names as anchor links, and these do directly affect your SEO. They serve as little keyword beacons of light which search engines lock onto like moths to a flame.
This is best accomplished with a navigation bar, either on the side or top of your page. This, again, makes your one page site more usable and easier to index. Each anchor link should have a targeted keyword, one that sounds natural and makes sense in the overall context of your site, mind you. If it doesn’t fit in with your content structure then it only serves to frustrate users and inflate your bounce rate.
To make an anchor link, begin by naming the DIV:
    <div id="hypothetical content section">

    Then add the link:
    <a href="#hypothetical content section"> Hypothetical + content + section</a>

Speaking of links, building outside links back to your site is another great way of increasing your rank. Which brings us to our next point.

    Seek Authority

Despite declining importance, link building still holds some sway as an SEO strategy, especially if you have content that goes viral. You shouldn’t focus on building spammy links in random comment sections though. Instead, you should look to include social media buttons so that website and its content is easily sharable. Simultaneously, you should seek authoritative link backs through guest blogs, collaborative efforts with influential voices inside your industry, and positive reviews of your offerings.
SEO Tricks for One Page Websites

    Multiple H1 Tags

Normally, it would be bad form to include multiple H1 tags on your page. After all, what do you need more than one title for? On a single page site, however, more than one H1 tag can indicate a separation in content, again making your page more legible and search friendly. It also presents an opportunity to keyword optimize.

    Don’t Neglect Readability

This is obvious and primary, and I’ve touched on it quite a bit in earlier sections. Yet it bears repeating. Never sacrifice flow or coherence for the sake of SEO. Nothing ruins your ranking quicker than a site that no one can read. As always, the best way to score high with your search engine optimization efforts it by delivering quality content that’s relevant to your audience. If you can do that, then the organic traffic will follow as a natural consequence.

    Keep it Fresh

One last thing, and this one can be tricky. For Google to rank your site highly, it’s pretty important to continually refresh your content. Refreshed content is a necessity, so you’ll have to be creative as to what you’ll change on your site, and how often. One way to address this problem might be to constantly switch out older product reviews from users to newer ones.
In the worst case scenario, you’ll just have to add another page for a blog, or user generated content.
So there you have it. 6 different tips to help your search ranking on a one page website. Do you have any other tricks that can help improve a one pager’s SEO? Share them in the comment section.
